We the People: Project Citizen is a portfolio-based civic education project designed by the Center for Civic Education for middle school and high school students as well as youth groups. The goal of the program is to promote competent and responsible participation in state and local government. Project Citizen actively engages students in learning how to monitor and influence public policy and encourages civic participation among students, parents and members of the community.
What is Public Policy?
Getting scholars to agree on a single, all-inclusive definition of public policy is no easy task. Broadly, we might say that a public policy is simply what government (any public official who influences or determines public policy, including school officials, city council members, county supervisors, etc.) does or does not do about a problem that comes before them for consideration and possible action.
