Our August book selection is Take the Mic: Fictional Stories of Everyday Resistance, featuring tales written by multi-talented authors such as Bethany C. Morrow (who edited this collection), Jason Reynolds, Samira Ahmed, and many others. This young adult anthology is comprised of thirteen fictional stories—in poems, prose, and art—that depict some of the wide-ranging ways that everyday people resist, swim upstream, and combat a world that is teeming with adversity. Whether the characters are standing up to online bullies, taking pride in their uniqueness, or standing up for people they care about, we all have something to learn from these diverse pieces. The stories in this anthology are nothing short of revolutionary, helping educate and open the eyes of readers in a fantastical way.

Pick up a copy at the Cincinnati & Hamilton County Public Library, or our own little free library at Elementz, and make plans to join our virtual via ZOOM at 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 25. If you participate in the video chat discussion, you might win a WVXU/D&M swag bag, including a copy of our September book, Want, by Cindy Pon. We hope you’ll join us (digitally) for this very special event!
